Other Features : When it comes to the topic of handmade knives and ABS Mastersmiths, Shane Taylor is a household word. Shane must be one of the most well known mastersmiths with a reputation for some of the finest and most unique work to come out of Montana. This very special and rare piece, is one of Shane’s beautiful “gears” daggers. Along with this piece’s great functional competency, it is also a stunning work of art. The gorgeous gears pattern mosaic damascus sports very interesting and colorful pattern of gear cogs in the center of the blade. The handle scales are made from bronze that is carved, sculpted, pressed and heated to form the gear patterns that you see. This represents many hours of painstaking work.

You will also note the the overall texture of the handle is free form stone like with incredible engraved gears in the back spacer as well as stippling on the liners and backspacer. But, what you will not immediately notice is on the inside of the backspacer are gears formed internally as well. Also, if you take a close look at the liners, you will see gear like reflections created by Shane to represent natural reflections as in a mirror. All I can say is WOW !!! What an amazing piece of art. If you are a serious collector of mastersmith folders (and even if you are not), this piece should be on your small list of sought after pieces. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire an incredible work such as this which is not just a slice of custom knife history, but also an incredible work of art that would be a great investment.  What a great knife at a fair price from one of the biggest names in the ABS.
