Bill started with really interesting cracked ice mammoth featuring terrific hues of creamy light beige, coffee and brown. The ivory has very interesting age marks on the surface which are quite unique. Just as interesting, is the Robert Eggerling Composite Snakeskin mosaic damascus blade. This high contrast steel has been expertly etched by Mr. Ankrom and combined with lighter shaded Devin Thomas raindrop patterned damascus offers both variety and contrast in coloring and patterns. Boy there is a lot to admire in this beautiful knife. Add to this beauty amazing fit, finish, feather smooth action and vault like lockup, and it is easy to see why Bill Ankrom's name rings out loudly in knife circles. The handle is made of beautiful interior mammoth ivory with magnificant and colorful scrimshaw of both an Indian brave and indian warrior weapons. Both images are quite realistic and colorful. The scrimshander, Linda Karst Stone, is one of the most notable and well known scrimshaw artists in the world today. From a functional standpoint, this piece has what it takes to cut and cut well. The blade steel is Devin Thomas sharkstooth damascus. This steel is not just beautiful, but also quite usable as well. The bolster steel has been provided by a young, up and coming damascus maker by the name of Joel Davis. He is quite an artist in his own right, and specializes in striking patterns in damascus. The backspacer of this beautiful piece is also damascus. Put it all together, and you have one beautiful knife with great detail, terrific presence, and awesome color. |
